For our group project we will be researching about cancel culture and online shaming, in my own terms cancel culture is when someone is shunned or rejected from a social circle and this can take place on social media or even your social life, online shamming is the when you get harassed by internet users on social media. Both online shaming and cancel culture has had drastic affects on people but especially celebrity's because they have a huge fan base, the most extremes case of this is the Logan Paul incident. The part that interests me the most is the effects  that online shaming can have, one of them is how your mental health can drop significantly because it seems like the whole world is against you. An example of this would be famous musician Travis Scott, he deleted his Instagram account due to his fanbase turning on him.
 
Travis dressed up as batman in a brown costume to match the colour of hos cars, fans didn't like this and swarmed his social media with "troll comments" like Man dressed up as Count chocula. 


Another area that interests me is the affect of cancel culture, when someone is exposed and suffers from cancel culture they can loose all sense of who they are and it can change them for better or worse, this happened in Login Paul’s case. Logan filmed a person hanging from a tree as it was obviously a suicide, this video went viral on youtube but not just his fans but the entire world was furious. He’s always done really stupid things but this shook the world, because of this Logan took a step back and took a break from YouTube but this occurrence changed home for the better, he was always doing the extreme for good content but he then came to realise that it’s not worth it if people are getting hurt.


My group didn’t really research as a team but we did individual research, my research has has been about David Dobrik and how he was a victim of online shamming. David was criticised for filming a video while a drunk girl was being raped, he wasn’t in the same room but in the same house. David saw his friend and a girl go to their bedroom so he walked into the room (it was dark so you couldn’t see), David was shammed and cancelled because he peeped through the door to record footage. After David found out what had happened, he instantly took the video down and made an apology video, then he took a break from YouTube for a while.

 Peer review  This weeks peer review tasks were interesting to write comments about the article was of use to me,  Feedback . However it was too long and took me too long to even skim through, I did try to use different reading techniques. From my first blog I’m trying to learn how to properly phrase my sentences and use different methods of writing. I learned that commas aren’t the only thing I can use to separate my sentences, for example brackets/commas; and dashes- may be used to separate sentences. Introducing myself. Hello people my name is Donell Usher, my friends used to call me Nelly for short until it got old. Im 18 years old and I would like to think of myself as a very open guy, no matter the circumstances I always find the good in things.  Hobbies.  Introduction As of late I read an article about active reading and how the educational system breads children from a young age to get familiar with it. Active reading is the process of asking questions while reading or analyzing  any written piece of text, however there are two views of active reading. One study (done by Kintsch and van Dijk) indicated that active reading is something that can be foreseen by thoroughly examining the text structure.  However others thought differently, they claimed that there are four factors that influence the effectiveness of active reading and those are what material are you covering, how you plan to learn the material you have read, how much time it takes for you to learn what you've read and the characteristics of the learner.
