Peer review #1
Peer review
For this week I was tasked with reviewing blogs from my peers, both blogs were delightful to read and both blogs gave me a different insight on how I can improve my own style of writing, I also read four articles, two on receiving feedback and two on giving feedback. The first article runs through how there were certain exercises to achieve and the correct measures to giving feedback, the most important detail was that it's better to show someone what they could do to improve rather than what they did wrong. It's called feedforward, when giving someone feedback they could take it the wrong way but feedforward gives them a different mindset and makes it almost fun to receive.
I see this as a very optimistic view point on receiving feedback, it also sounds a lot better when you help someone and show them a way to improve rather than saying this, that and this is wrong, it shows your dwelling on someone's weak spot and making fun of it in a way. This study shows that when you have a stronger mindset about something, you can then reach new heights and this can also be seen by students so their skills can be improved, the article is called Be a mirror. This article was focused on how strong a growth mindset can be and how impressive your mind is in a good mental state and it's true, if you put your mind towards anything you can absolutely achieve it.
The article above is a very interesting view point on how not to praise your child because this creates a fragile/fixed mindset hence why feedback and making sure you give it in the right way is so important as this adds to the growth of children. There are steps you can take to counteract a fixed mindset and develop a growth mindset, things like knowing your weaknesses and embracing them, seeing challenges as an opportunity to change and develop and many more methods. Overall after reviewing and receiving feedback from my peers I feel like I have both given a different insight on how they can grow but also I have given myself an opportunity to grow, so my experience this week was quite helpful. How was yours?
