New beginnings

 Towards production This week I dug deeper into cancel culture and online shamming but specifically David Dobrik who I briefly covered in my other production blog  Starting out  but I also wan to reflect  upon all my research so far as a group and future expectations.  Dobrik has suffered his fare share of backlash within the past few years still even to this day he gets criticised here and there.  June 2017 Dobrik released a video where he pranks one of the vlog squad members into kissing a girl but it was actually a guy, he was blindfolded so he had no idea. Seth Francois stated that this was sexual assault, David took Seth’s response seriously and posted an apology video a week later. David received massive backlash for this incident but nothing major affected his channel, all he did was take the video down and apologise.  Revising writing The post I was rewriting was about active reading, from the articles I read I tried to keep a firm but smooth flowing paragraph structure and tried to mix up my punctuation by not just using commas and full stops. I also tried to adjust my paragraphs so they had a different structure, I tried to avoid repetition but with my dyslexia, it was a little tough so I looked up words for synonyms; the main point of my paragraph was at the beginning and my examples and supporting evidence was in the middle and at the end of my paragraph I attempted to make it flow into the next paragraph. I made an effort to adjust my sentences with a comma or full stop because it's something I have a problem with. When it came to writing I made a few mental notes of the steps I needed to take and I was constantly checking back on my feedback to see what else I could've changed within my blog.  Active reading As of late, I read an article about active reading and how the educational system allows children from a young age to get familiar with it. Active reading is the process of asking questions while reading or analyzing any written piece of text, however, there are two views of active reading. One study (done by Kintsch and van Dijk) indicated that active reading is something that can be foreseen by thoroughly examining the text structure.  The article suggests that active reading should be implemented by a young age so you can actively learn without a teachers presence, the article also indicates that planning, checking and evaluating are methods of active reading that help maintain focus on the topic. When asking questions and challenging yourself you trick the brain into keeping interested; if the topic is interesting then reading information about it will help you learn it.  Media ethics The medium is the message was a very interesting but cryptic video, it managed to grasp my attention for a short period because some of the words were difficult to understand. The video explains how the medium can drastically change how we see things but also how the medium can change and influence ideas to convey a whole different message. In the first video, you tuber states that ideas are like "erosion powerful and unstoppable but slow and mediums are earthquakes dramatically and even violently changing the landscape when they arrive". I feel like it's a very powerful metaphor to describe how we see the medium and ideas although the video itself was hard to follow along mainly because the topic was puzzling to understand.
