Media Literacy

Media Literacy  Media literacy is a term used to critically evaluate the information we receive and read from the internet, this information should be carefully processed when writing an article or opinion about it. For example, https://www.medialiteracyireland.ie/news/digital-media-companies-found-lacking-in-helping-users-understand-the-online-environment and https://www.medialiteracyireland.ie/news/ofcom-research-nearly-half-of-people-across-the-uk-nations-have-come-across-false-or-misleading-information-about-covid-19. Now before reading any type of media or information on the internet you must always ask what, why and who is giving me this information, who is it aimed at and is it truthful. You must ask yourself these questions because you could easily stumble across the wrong information and it may or may not be sincere, being media literate is a skill everyone should have so you find the information you're looking for.  When I read the two articles the first one was aime...

Digital Media

Digital Media I watched a few videos on digital media and digital literacy and my thoughts haven't really changed on the subject, originally I thought that digital media was a type of hub where everyone can communicate with each other using any form of technology or accessibility to shape and form their ideas. These ideas would then be broadcasted to others and they would share their thoughts and feelings on the topic. Memes are one example of how everyone can share how a certain image or text can relate to them, the next image is a meme a I can very much relate to.   This is dodge and everyone would probably know doge because he was a big a meme in 2010. Media has advanced and improved so much that their are so many ways to advertise is, this can be compared with old or "traditional" media to new media. This can be seen in technology with huge advancements, the first example would be the change of shape, style and user interface within televisions. They used to be huge ...

Introduction As of late I read an article about active reading and how the educational system breads children from a young age to get familiar with it. Active reading is the process of asking questions while reading or analyzing  any written piece of text, however there are two views of active reading. One study (done by Kintsch and van Dijk) indicated that active reading is something that can be foreseen by thoroughly examining the text structure.  However others thought differently, they claimed that there are four factors that influence the effectiveness of active reading and those are what material are you covering, how you plan to learn the material you have read, how much time it takes for you to learn what you've read and the characteristics of the learner. The last one surprised me because that means active reading might actually be suited for certain people and not everyone can benefit from it.  Active reading not only allows the learner to challenge themse...

Study skills

Introduction Recently after watching the videos I managed to get a different insight of how to take/ study notes. In my experiences I have used active recall and spacing to study for upcoming tests or exams, these methods have certainly helped as it was the perfect method to help me improve. Although I have not used interleaving as this was difficult. When I'm testing myself using active recall I would cover the definition and try recite what it is, this helped but it was time consuming... I wish I used flash cards. I used spacing but I couldn't bring myself to study over the course of the week, interleaving was also a disaster because by the time I had to relearn the information I already forgot it.  I have only read a couple of books and even now I wouldn't start reading a book during my free time because of my dyslexia. This made my learning difficult because I wouldn't understand or phrase a word properly. Current feelings towards reading and writing Reading and rig...

I'm eighteen years old and turn nineteen in December, I live in Wicklow so commuting is a pain in the a## and roughly takes me two and a half hours one way.  My family consists of me, my Granny, my Mom and my brother, I never got to know my dad but I know hes always watching over me. Hobbies All my best friends play video games but out of all of them I definitely adore it the most, I love the excitement and joy the developers bring to the community. When a fully committed team buts heads and dedicates themselves to concoct a well thought of game not only brings joy to hardcore gamers but also creates a very diverse and unique community. I like going to social gatherings, meeting new people and having a good time and this can be achieved by going out or some gaming. Fresh start...
